(F class) - 3 students = 12 ~ 1pm.
(F class) - 1 student = 1 ~ 2pm.
In the first class, Ms. Y. talked about her shopping trip to the wholesalers in the 'Semba build' area. She wanted to buy kid's summer kimonos(yukata), for her family's kids, to attend the Tenjin festival, tomorrow. She talked a little about the 'dragon boat' festival, and the activities, that take place there, as Mr. F. has never attended the festival. Ms. M. (a new face for me) talked a little about her job, as a jazz singer. She wanted to know the meaning of the lyrics of a song, she has recently been singing, in the jazz lounge, where she works. We went over the song, and listened to it on You-tube. Mr. F. told us about his recent 'driving' vacation trip, in and around the 'Grand Circle' area, where he visited 5 national parks. It sounds like he had a wonderful time, and if he remembers, he will show us some pics. the next time he comes. In the second class, as Ms. M. was alone, we went over another song lyric, and talked about music, and some famous old jazz musicians. Here are some of the words we looked at today...
Gargle (verb) = To move liquid around in the back of your mouth, in order to clean your mouth and throat.
Sorrow (noun) = Great sadness. eg. We could hear and feel the sound of deep sorrow, in the voice of the famous Billy Halliday, the great jazz/blues singer of long ago. Her life was very hard, and we could hear it in her voice.
Tea-box bass (noun) = A musical instrument made from a wooden box, with an upright pole inserted into the center of the box, and a thick rope attached to the top of the pole, pulled taught, and attached to the corner of the box. The original wooden boxes were used to transport tea, to England, and Australia (hence the name), and were popular in the early 1950's. Twilight (noun) = The time in the evening, when the sun has just set, and the sky is beginning to get dark.
Wholesaler (noun) = Someone, whose job is, to sell large quantities of goods to shops or small businesses.
So, enough for today. Thank you for coming to my classes today. Have a great weekend! Rita.
